The ego is circular thinking; always trying to solve problems at the level of “effect” within its own delusional thought system. It attempts to keep us within its paradigm and away from healing the “cause” of all problems we perceive in the world. For example, the ego projects sickness onto the body; yet it is the ego that projects all seeming remedies as well. It makes sickness and it makes the myriad “magic” medicines, traditional or alternative; they are all the same – ego’s magic.

The ego made up sickness, deprivation and death. Instead of trying to “fix” the dream which is purely “effect”, we need to heal the “cause” which is the split mind that made the ego. The dream itself is not real so how in the world can we heal something within a dream that’s not real to begin with? This is the ego’s closed paradigm and we will never heal while we continue to look for our salvation in the ego’s remedies within the dream. “There is no remedy the world provides that can effect a change in anything. The mind that brings illusions to the truth is really changed. There is no change but this.” W-140.7:3-5.

We are created by God; we are hidden safely in God while we dream a dream of suffering. We made the world we see, we made the ego and the body at the separation. We made everything that we believe we’re victim to, except we have forgotten that we made it and therefore have the power to un-make it. Healing depends upon seeing and accepting this and that we have the choice in every moment, to believe the ego (fear and doubt) or to believe in God (love and trust).

If we want to heal ourselves and the world we must look to the one cause of all healing; God, being infinite Love with no opposite. All healing comes from the healed mind and not from our external projected images such as the body or the world. Healing doesn’t lie in anything external to us. When we prioritize healing of the body instead of the mind, we’re making the ego’s illusory projection real.

The source of all healing is the mind; the Source, the “I AM”. The source of all healing is the essence of God, the presence of God. If we could trust in God enough to surrender our health and well-being to Him, the certain outcome would be awakening. This is undoing the ego’s projection by surrendering to God; by going to the “cause” (rather than the effect, being ego’s illness and remedies). By going to the mind (God) we’re turning away from being victims of what the ego made and turning toward being the co-creator of what God wants; which is Who we are…the Will of God.

True healing is AWAKENING and the way to awakening is surrender to God; surrendering any beliefs in a power other than God, i.e. sickness, deprivation, conflict, death. Remember that the ego uses the body’s senses to report exactly what it wants us to believe. It is up to us to withdraw our belief in what the body’s eyes see and what the body’s senses tell us; this is looking past appearances. By doing this we leave a sacred space in our perception for Holy Spirit to give us His Vision. It is only then, that we realize that nothing can hurt us; not even the idea of death. Here we release our persistent sense of threat; the ego. And because we have prioritized turning to Holy Spirit which is surrendering fear, we free the block and therefore will be guided as to what we need do at the level of “form” if needed. “What you behold as sickness and as pain, as weakness and as suffering and loss, is but temptation to perceive yourself defenseless and in hell. Yield not to this, and you will see all pain, in every form, wherever it occurs, but disappear as mists before the sun.” T-31.VIII.6:2-3

Remember that the fear of death is the unconscious attraction to it. The ego’s game plan is to kill your body before you wake-up ensuring its continuation of amnesia and suffering through the cycle of birth and death. “Those who fear death see not how often and how loudly they call to it, and bid it come to save them from communication. For death is seen as safety, the great dark savior from the light of truth, the answer to the Answer, the silencer of the Voice that speaks for God. Yet the retreat to death is not the end of conflict. Only God’s Answer is its end.” T-19.IV.C.7:1-4.

Without the unconscious fear of death we live fully, trusting in the moment and in joy and inspiration. Every moment is inspired when the need to “save our life” is surrendered to God. Here, we realize that there is no life to save. Why? Because we realize that through the ego, we were trying to save our life from God; from Love itself. That’s the fear of God which translates to the fear of death (or deprivation, disease, scarcity, etc). In healing, we see that the ego is no longer driving our need to protect and save our life; so who is left to live it? Now we recognize that Holy Spirit (the Christ) is living our life through us and this is the ‘happy dream’. Life is God and Life itself lives through us once the ego’s fear of death is surrendered. As in Heaven, so on Earth!

The Fear of God

Our final obstacle to peace, healing, awakening and accepting the Atonement is facing up to and giving over our fear of God. To the degree that we still perceive suffering (or struggle and sacrifice) demonstrates the extent that we still fear God – love. And to the degree that we don’t trust God is the same extent that ego exacts control over our lives. Trusting God is surrendering ego control to God. When there’s fear of God, there is dependence on ego to save us (remember that ego wants our death). The more we trust God, the easier it is to surrender the ego and awaken.

We need to look at the nature of our lives; the degree of suffering and control. This will determine the level of trust or distrust that we have in God. How much we are willing to surrender to God in each moment shows us our level of trust in God (love and trust) or the ego (fear, control and doubt). If we have a strong desire to “save or protect our life” then we must have an equally strong “fear of God”. The illusion of physical death is purely the ego’s invention to save us from awakening.

Jesus tells us that lessons can be gentle and so all we need do is demonstrate our willingness to look at our fear of God. Anything or anyone that appears to upset us is really “death” in disguise, or fear of God, regardless of how insignificant its appearance may be. Through experiences that arise, we will each be given multiple opportunities to hand over ego control of our lives to God.  Each of these experiences will strengthen our trust and replace fear with love. These forgiveness opportunities will encourage in us, a stronger desire to hand over more and more of our decisions, judgments and beliefs until we reach a turning point where we see that maintaining control only brings suffering and pain and we make a commitment to relinquish all control to Him who loves us truly.

This is our prayer – for us all. Amen.
