An Short Excerpt from ‘The End of Death’
When we look upon another as a physical body, we judge and limit them. But what the ego doesn’t want us to know is that in the body of another, we will see the use to which we have put ours. In truth, there is no other, so however we see and treat another, is what we do to ourselves. It may not appear so but the unconscious guilt (self-attack) that is accumulated, although perhaps not recognized, plays havoc in our experience. Regarding another as a physical entity denies him and our self, while separating us both.
While we hold another responsible for meeting our needs or for making us happy physically or emotionally, we deny Love. If we are blinded by ‘appearances’, seeing another’s body as beautiful or ugly, young or old, thin or fat, healthy or sick – we reject the Truth of who they are. And whenever we reject another, we reject our self first. In this, we have lost our Loving connection with the one Self, our Holy Self.
When we see our self and others as bodies, we assign our body a role that the ego will fulfill. The ego seeks sin, guilt and death. It sends the body’s senses out there to find what ‘it’ projected. The Holy Self, on the other hand, teaches us to forgive what we have projected outward onto others, situations and our body. If we experience a loss of peace, then it is an immediate indicator of the true source of our suffering, within our own mind. It can never be anywhere else…regardless of appearances, of physical evidence to the contrary.
When we join Spirit in abdicating the ego’s purpose for the body, giving it wholly to God’s Loving Purpose instead, then the body becomes a means by which Spirit reaches beyond our delusional idols and gently returns us to sanity.
“The body becomes a means by which the part of the mind you tried to separate from spirit can reach beyond its distortions and return to spirit. The ego’s temple thus becomes the temple of the Holy Spirit, where devotion to Him replaces the devotion to the ego. In this sense the body does become temple to God: His Voice abides in it by directing the use to which it is a part.” ACIM, T-8 VII. 9:7
